Still held in low esteem

Women in sports broadcasters have a tough career path -- the pipeline to important jobs is narrow and discouraging (the most recent to leave: Bonnie Bernstein). It's infuriating when popular sports Web sites such as Deadspin.com show little respect to women sports broadcasters through the use of doctored photos and invitations for comments. The doctored photo of Erin Andrews (and accompanying commentary) has also appeared on fan sites. It's a sign that women in sports still don't get the respect they deserve.

Glad to hear Bonnie Bernstein is no longer on TV. She adds nothing to a broadcast and she pulled one of the all-time interview choke jobs when she blew asking Roy Williams the question correctly on the first attempt after the NCAA title game and then Roy showed her up with her weak follow-up attempt. ... Erin Andrews is great. I don't know nothing about whatever injustice was done her via a photo but she is terrific --- I don't mean just in the looks department. She knows sports and that sets her apart from nearly all the women the networks throw on the sidelines. Guys want women WHO KNOW SPORTS to be part of the broadcasts, not the pretty face types who know nothing.
